Group of playful dogs

Traveling with your furry friend? Red Roof knows how important it is to find the best spots for your dog to play and relax. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the best dog parks in Knoxville. With plenty of green space and amenities, these parks are perfect for your pet to stretch their legs, all conveniently located near our pet-friendly hotels.

When you’re traveling, whether it’s for work or play, a tired dog is always much better than one with too much pent up energy. And most pup owners know that the easiest and quickest way to tire their dog is with a trip to a dog park. There are few things more exhausting than romping around with a bunch of other playful dogs, in the sunshine. As part of the city’s commitment to becoming more dog-friendly, Knoxville has partnered with PetSafe, an organization that has been helping fund dog parks and other projects that make dogs feel welcomed.

Charter Doyle PetSafe Dog Park - 5100 Martin Mill Pike

Charter Doyle PetSafe Dog Park is a great option for those days when the Tennessee heat is unbearable as there’s lots of shaded areas thanks to several mature cedar trees. This dog park has separate sections for small and large dogs, ideal for those who feel most comfortable when their pup is socializing with dogs of similar stature. In addition to lots of shade, owners and dogs will find a water fountain and stands for doggy waste bags. If you’re wanting to stretch your legs, Charter Doyle Greenway, a 0.5-mile loop, surrounds Charter Doyle Park. However, it is an on-leash trail so it may be best to tackle this walk after your dog has already let out most of its energy at the park. There is also a playground, making this a popular spot among families with young children and dogs.

Plumb Creek Dog Park - 1517 Hickey Rd

Plumb Creek Dog Park is one of the largest pup-friendly outdoor spaces you’ll find in Knoxville -- it’s a whopping 8 acres! Seven of these acres are designated for larger dogs and 1-acre is set aside for smaller pups. The area for large dogs features a walking path, water fountain, and shaded shelter, while the area for small dogs has a water fountain and shelter. Past visitors have noted that it’s a relatively new dog park and that it’s beautifully maintained and feels seemingly endless in size. Because it’s so large and gorgeous, we recommend packing a picnic and spending the afternoon in the sun, taking in the scenery.

PetSafe Village Dog Park - 10424 PetSafe Way

If you’re looking for a picturesque outdoor area to explore with your furry bestie, then look no further than the PetSafe Village Dog Park. This was the very first dog park to open in PetSafe Village and it’s stocked with everything a pup could dream of, including agility equipment, a doggy water fountain, a pond, picnic tables, park benches, and walking trails for those who want to get a few steps in! It’s just over one-acre in size and it turns into an “on-leash only” area after 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays and after 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Previous visitors have mentioned that the dog park has great amenities, which keeps them coming back for more.

Concord Dog Park - 10901 S Northshore Dr

If your pup likes to run or do zoomies in large, open fields, then a trip to Concord Dog Park in Knoxville is an absolute must. This dog park spans over 4-acres and features separate areas for small and large dogs. Along with tons of space to romp around, the dog park has water access for pups who like to swim, walking trails, covered benches for humans looking to escape the sunshine, drinking fountains for furry and non furry guests, and restrooms. It’s a wonderful place for your doggo to burn off some energy before exploring everything else that Knoxville, Tennessee, has to offer.

Tommy Shumpert Park at PetSafe Village - 6400 Fountain City Rd

It’s hard to forget a dog park with a name like this one! The Tommy Shumpert Park at PetSafe Village is a dog-friendly area with two off-leash fenced spaces. This dog park is divided into an area for small dogs under 30 pounds and an area for dogs of any size, providing peace of mind for owners with tiny dogs. In addition to lots of grass and mulch for your sweet pup to enjoy, the dog park has plenty of benches and space for humans (and dogs) to mingle. Within the area for dogs of all sizes, you’ll find a walking trail and a pond so Fido can cool down during the hotter months. But be warned, he will be muddy after this swim so pack lots of towels. There are restrooms nearby for owners to use, which means you’ll be able to spend hours at Tommy Shumpert Park.

PetSafe Downtown Dog Park - 200 S Central St

This dog park is located just off the highway, convenient for those passing through Knoxville on a road trip. PetSafe Downtown Dog Park isn’t overly large in size, but it does have separate areas for smaller breeds and larger breeds, ensuring the safety of furry visitors. There are water fountains, dog waste stations, and previous visitors mention that owners are diligent when it comes to cleaning up after their dogs.

Dogwood Park at Victor Ashe Park - 4901 Bradshaw Rd

This dog park is a lovely place to spend the afternoon or morning with a cup of coffee in-hand. Dogwood Park, located in Victor Ashe Park, boasts a smaller off-leash area that's equipped with a water fountain and playground made just for dogs. It’s part of a large 115-acre park where visitors will find a playground for children, fishing areas, and a greenway area where people are welcome to walk their dogs on-leash. Even though it’s smaller in size, it’s a great place to take dogs who love agility training and mental stimulation. Bring some treats and have them do some tricks as this will tire them out in no time!

Holston River PetSafe Dog Park - 3300 Holston Hills Rd

Last but certainly not least is the 2-acre Holston River PetSafe Dog Park, an outdoor area that’s clean and shaded. It’s definitely a great option on those days when it's too hot to take your dog for a long walk around the hotel. There are plenty of shaded areas, water fountains for humans and dogs, and a nearby playground for kiddos. It is located on the Holston River Greenway and has separate areas for large and small breeds. A walking track and shelters with tables underneath are also close by for humans to take advantage of. The dog park is located at the southern end of Holston River Park.
